Over the past few years we have embraced our exciting technological growth from a computer lab with just computers and a few switches to a classroom environment now filled with an assortment of new tech devices, all with new improved designs that helped remove the barriers between our students and older pc machines. The IPad and it's tablet cousins, have no doubt been the leaders in this new area of growth. As we embrace this new era and move forward.
It has become very clear that to define our Lab as a "Computer Lab" no longer works with who we are, or what we are doing. Yes, computers still line the walls on adjustable tables and we use them with students frequently, but they no longer define the larger scope of what we have to offer our student population.
I recently used the comparison of a math teacher who might use a pencil to complete a word problem. It would not be accurate to then introduce the teacher as "Mrs. Smith, my Pencil Teacher". Clearly the pencils are an important tool, just as our computers are to us..........but they no longer can fully define our classroom.
Our Technology lab is a creative, collaborative multimedia learning environment. We work hard to make sure each student is able to have access to the technology.
It feels great to embrace new horizons!
